Respect
Respect at Limber Pine Summer Camp is the standard, not the hope. We work with our campers to develop a sense of respect for themselves, for one another, and for nature as we navigate trails and explore the vast beauty that is Salt Lake City.
"Hiking - I don't like either the word or the thing. People ought to saunter in the mountains - not hike! Do you know the origin of that word 'saunter?' It's a beautiful word. Away back in the Middle Ages people used to go on pilgrimages to the Holy Land, and when people in the villages through which they passed asked where they were going, they would reply, "A la sainte terre,' 'To the Holy Land.' And so they became known as sainte-terre-ers or saunterers. Now these mountains are our Holy Land, and we ought to saunter through them reverently, not 'hike' through them." - John Muir

Respect is one of the foundational values woven into every experience at Limber Pines Summer Camp. In today’s fast-paced world, adolescents are constantly navigating social pressure, digital noise, and the challenge of discovering who they truly are. Through immersive outdoor experiences in the mountains, forests, and wilderness surrounding Salt Lake City, our camp helps teens develop a deeper respect for themselves, others, and the natural world around them.

At Limber Pine, respect is more than good manners — it is the foundation of leadership, bravery, emotional intelligence, and personal growth. Campers learn how to listen with intention, communicate thoughtfully, support their peers, and approach challenges with humility and courage. Whether hiking through the Wasatch Mountains, participating in team-building exercises near Big Cottonwood Canyon, or sharing stories around the campfire, every moment becomes an opportunity to strengthen character and connection.

Our small group sizes allow campers to feel seen, heard, and valued. This intentional environment creates space for meaningful mentorship, healthy friendships, and emotional development during the critical adolescent years. Teens are encouraged to respect their own voice and individuality while learning the importance of empathy, accountability, and teamwork.

Nature itself becomes one of our greatest teachers. Through unplugged outdoor experiences, campers develop an appreciation for mindfulness, stewardship, resilience, and self-awareness. By stepping away from screens and into the wilderness, teens gain confidence in who they are and discover how respect for themselves and others contributes to overall wellness and long-term emotional health.

Families searching for teen summer camps in Salt Lake City, outdoor leadership camps in Utah, nature-based youth development programs, or wellness-focused summer camps near Park City and Draper will find that Limber Pine offers a transformational experience rooted in strong values, courage, and authentic connection.

Why Respect Matters in Adolescence

Strengthen confidence and self-worth
-
Improve communication and leadership skills
-
Foster resilience and accountability
-
Create a deeper connection to community and nature
